WE Day Vancouver
We Day Vancouver (Wednesday, November 3, 2016) is fast approaching for students in Gr. 6 & 7. Pinantan students will be meeting at the Halston Esso -A&W at 3:00 AM in order to leave on a convoy of buses that leave the Halston Esso at 3:30 AM. Please make sure to be on time as the convoy will not wait for stragglers. Pinantan students will be joined on the bus by students from Barriere Elem and Sec. Parents, please remember to send plenty of food along with your children, enough for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks throughout the day. While a concession stand is open at Rogers Arena the lines are long and the food is very expensive, so perhaps not the best choice. After the event the bus will dropping students off at approx. 8:00 PM back at the Halston Esso-A&W.
Our youth will no doubt be returning to the community and school with a heart and enthusiasm for service as they demonstrate a leadership role and an appreciation for helping others, locally and beyond.
Thank you to the two parents who have volunteered to join in supervising our youth while at WE Day. You are greatly appreciated.
Parent-Child Mother Goose Program
Parent-Child Mother Goose continues to happen on Tuesday mornings at the school. It is so good to see so many parents and their young children attend, interact and have fun while learning together. If you have questions regarding the program please contact Jennifer Hoye the program facilitator.

The Pinantan Elementary Preschool, held on Thursday mornings, began on Oct 27 and continues until Dec 1. Should you be interested in attending with your child or have questions about the program please contact Melissa Pavluk at 250-573-5881.
Parking Lot Safety
Please be mindful of our sometimes distracted youngsters around the school's parking lots and streets. Slow down and take an extra look to make sure they are not in your vehicle's path.

PAC Bottle Drive
Wow, PINANTAN ROCKS again! As a community, $1200.00 was raised in order to support PAC initiatives for our wonderful school. Thank you to all of the volunteers (students and adults) who helped with the bottle collection and to all of you who helped support the bottle drive with all of your bottles and cans. Give yourselves a big pat on the back for such a great success. Go Lakers!!
Come Read with Me
An enjoyable time was had by many parents who attended Come Read with Me this past Thursday morning at the school. Parents of children in grades 1-4 reviewed and learned some important strategies when reading with their kids at home that alleviates some of the stress that can go along with emergent and sometimes reluctant readers. Facilitator, Fiona Clare was most engaging as we snacked and learned together. Thank you to those parents who were able to attend, and a big thank you to the students in Gr. 5/6/7 who helped with babysitting and reading with the younger kids. Bravo!
The white stuff is nearly upon us and as such we remind you send students with warm clothing for those chilly days. Inside shoes are also a necessity to have on hand in order to keep our floors dry and safe.
**The following events are coming soon:**
You Can Count on Me
This Wednesday, Nov 2 from 8:15 – 10:00 AM Pinantan Elem. is hosting another educational opportunity for parents of children in Gr. 1-4. As with many things, Kids need to hear and have modelled for them positive experiences by those who influence them. Math is one of those experiences. You Can Count on Me, with facilitator Mrs. Dophie Bourbonnais, is all about demonstrating fun activities that parents can use to support and engage their children in math, at home. We would love to have you join us. For more information please call or email Mrs. Matthews or Mr. Wood at the school @ 250-573-3234. Cost per family is $5.00.
Family Math Night
Many parents and their children have already signed-up for this, another educational opportunity being held Monday, Nov 7, Wednesday, Nov 9 and Thursday, Nov 10 at Pinantan Elem. From 6:00 -7:00 PM parents and their children will engage with Mr. Thor Fridriksson to learn additional valuable tools to support their child at home with math. 'Math is fun!' as we watch and learn some simple techniques offered by Mr. Fridriksson. This opportunity is open to all students K-7. Snacks and prizes will be available as well. Come on out and have some fun. For more information call the school and either speak to Mrs. Matthews or Mr. Wood 250-573-3234.
Remembrance Day Assembly
We would like to invite the entire school community of Pinantan Elementary to join us as we remember those who have served and continue to serve our country at times of war and peace. The assembly will begin at 10:45 AM on Thursday, Nov 10. We hope to see you then.
